Policy Statement

Esk Valley Theatre is a non-profit making organization committed to bringing professional theatre to the Esk Valley in the North York Moors National Park.

We believe that rural audiences should have access to professional theatre. It can play an important role in society and can bring significant cultural and economic benefits. We aim to entertain and provide a forum for debate and social interaction. We will work hard to bring our community together to enjoy theatre. In a remote rural area like ours it can help to diminish people's sense of isolation.

EVT will endeavour to recruit theatre practitioners across the spectrums of age, race and ability. It prides itself on offering creative opportunities in a supportive and collaborative environment. Members of the company are encouraged to flex their creative muscles, take artistic risks, and aim for the highest production standards.

It is a particular aim to encourage new writing, and the company will strive to build links with other arts organizations and develop working partnerships in the arts community.

Stimulating minds and imaginations is important to the company and we believe EVT brings great social benefits to audiences, volunteers and the artists working for us. We believe theatre has to re-invent itself in this modern era, and we are working hard to make that happen.
